The Government of Pakistan Planning Commission, under the Ministry of Planning, Development & Special Initiatives, has announced a high-level vacancy for the post of Member (Population). This is a challenging and senior leadership opportunity for experienced professionals to contribute to national development and economic transformation

This position is suitable for candidates with strong academic background and extensive experience in population studies, public policy, economics, public health, and development planning.

Position Details

Qualification & Experience Requirements

Candidates must meet one of the following criteria:

Option 1

  • PhD in:

    • Demography

    • Population Studies

    • Public Policy

    • Public Health

    • Development Studies

    • Economics

    • Statistics

  • 14 years professional experience, including:

    • 5–8 years of managerial/administrative experience

    • Experience at policy-making level in government, international organizations, or development institutions

Option 2

  • Master’s degree in the above fields

  • 18 years professional experience, including:

    • 5–8 years of managerial/administrative experience at policy-making level

Terms of Reference (TORs) / Job Responsibilities

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing strategic oversight on population policy and demographic research

  • Integrating population dynamics with economic planning

  • Coordinating with:

    • Ministry of National Health Services

    • Population Welfare Departments

    • Bureau of Statistics

    • Development partners

  • Leading the development of a National Population Strategy aligned with:

    • Vision 2025 / 2035

    • Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

    • 13th Five-Year Plan

  • Guiding population modelling and demographic projections

  • Performing additional duties assigned by:

    • Prime Minister

    • Minister for Planning

    • DCPC

    • Secretary PD&SI

Tenure of Appointment

  • Initial Tenure: 2 years

  • Extension: Annual extension based on performance

  • Maximum Duration: Up to 4 years
